Hepatitis C and Alcohol Abuse

One of the most debilitating diseases that directly affect the liver is hepatitis c. Combine hepatitis c and alcohol abuse and that spell a quick path to death. To get a better understanding one must know and understand as much as possible about hepatitis c. Hepatitis C is a communicable illness that originates from the hepatitis c virus. The disease inflames the liver and surrounding tissue cells. When an individual combines hepatitis c and alcohol abuse the development of cirrhosis of the liver is almost certain. Another possible effect of hepatitis c and alcohol abuse is liver cancer which in most cases is terminal.

The spread of hepatitis c is generally caused by blood to blood contact intravenously. Another sobering reality is one third of alcoholics who are already infected with liver disease develop hepatitis c. Because hepatitis c isn’t always symptomatic many who combine hepatitis c and alcohol abuse don’t realize the damaging effects until they experience severe stomach cramps and unusual bleeding. Other effects are severe scarring of the abdomen and fluid build up in the veins.
